With the theme “Fun around the Farm,” the parade is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 16th. Line-up begins at 3:30p.m. near the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department on S. Ireland Street. Parade judging will be a bit different this year. Judges will be within the crowd throughout the parade route. Once the parade is completed Chris Ramey, Parade Coordinator will tally the votes and will announce the winner at the Fair Midway speakers.
We will have 3 judging categories:
· Entry with the most Enthusiasm $25
· Entry Decorated & Supporting the 2023 Parade Theme $25
· 4-H Best Decorated & Supporting the 2023 Parade Theme $25
We have 107 official entries that include Trucks, Tractors, Semi Tractors, Tow Trucks, Floats, Horses, Fire, EMS, Sheriff, City PD, and many more fun things!
Organizers are asking the public to keep Ireland Street open for participant drop-off.
For line-up, drive to McKee Street if you are listed on Mckee, Ireland street, or around the Health Department. Others may go directly to their destination in the line-up.
Participants not previously registered for the parade may come down to McKee Street for line-up at the end of the parade.
The Decatur County CERT team will be there in yellow vests to help with line-up and to direct traffic. East-west streets will be used for line-up, so check for your location carefully and know your number in line.
WTRE will be broadcasting from their front lawn during the parade.
Parade Organizer Chris Ramey would like to thank Decatur County 4-H Fair Committee Members, Decatur County Commissioners, Decatur County CERT Team, Mayor Josh Marsh, Greensburg Street Department, Greensburg Police Department, WTRE, and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department. Ramey commented, “This is the largest 4-H Fair Parade that I can remember. I am hoping for beautiful weather that will allow all to enjoy themselves.”
Participants may throw candy or pass out items along the parade route.
The Parade route has changed a bit this year. The parade will begin on Ireland Street, turn right onto Park Rd, proceed down Park Rd, Turn left into the fairgrounds at the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter, proceed straight, turn right on the gravel road in front of the horse stalls, proceed straight up the hill, turn right and wind around in front of the Headquarters building, run down the side of the Commercial Building, turn left and proceed straight out of the fairgrounds towards the Extension office. The only exception to the route will be Sweets Rotators, and Semi Tractors will be sent to continue up Park Rd due to height restrictions and tight turns at the fairgrounds. Officials will be available along the parade route to ensure that the route is followed.
We are asking that parade watchers to not set up in front of or around the horse stalls due to safety concerns. Horse stall area is limited to 4-H horse members and families during the parade.
Also, all parade entries are asked to cease lights, sirens and noise makers as they approach and pass the horse stalls. Parade officials will be available to assist. Once past the horse stalls and entering the midway you are welcome to return with lights, sirens, and noise makers.
