The Decatur County Community Schools Board of Education met on Wednesday.
The board approved the payment of claims and payroll. The resignation of Mary Rogers-North Decatur was approved. The medical leave of Allison Wilkerson was approved. The hirings of Jennifer Myers-North Decatur, Kimberly Connall-North Decatur, and Daniel Halcomb-North Decatur were approved.
The North Decatur High School social studies academic team was introduced to be honored. Mrs. Laker is in charge of all the academic teams at the high school and Ernie Ruble was the sponsor for the social studies team. Student Blane Wagner, along with his teammates, work all year long preparing for competitions. This is not an easy task and the school would like to honor them as inspiration and role models for all their hard work. This hard work paid off as they won second in state. The students were presented with models of different planes and ships. Ruble was also awarded a model of the USS Kitty Hawk for being a role model to both students and his colleagues.
The North Decatur High School extra effort award recipient was Greg Kulpinski. They do a lot of behind the scenes work to make sure the school is presented well and is always there when needed.
The North Decatur Elementary School extra effort award recipient was their Kindergarten team. These three ladies are always prepared and go above and beyond buying supplies for students and planning the kindergarten roundup. They are not afraid to make necessary changes and always communicate those to parents smoothly.
There was a presentation of the 2022 budget, capital projects fund, and bus replacement plan. Their goal for the budget is to overestimate the expenses and underestimate the revenues, as the state can only decrease their budget. They are scheduled to replace 4 buses and possibly purchase 3 new ones. There is no longer a capital projects fund, however they are still required to prepare one.
There were 2 updates to the reentry plan. The Decatur county schools will not allow at home tests to declare any quarantine or contact tracing. These will not be accepted. The 10 day quarantine will now be a mandated 14 day quarantine. These updates were approved 6-1.
The Neola Policy updates were approved. The 2021/2022 Teacher Appreciation Grant policy was approved. All student fundraisers were approved. The disposal of obsolete equipment was approved.
Rob Smith gave an update on North Decatur Elementary School. They have had an excellent start and thank anyone involved with getting the new furniture into the school. The open house is this Thursday from 4-5:30pm. They have had lots of staffing changes that have been going well. They have 2 field trips coming up 1 to the power of the past and 1 for Ag day.
Debbie Reynolds gave an update on North Decatur High School. They have had a great start to the school year. The floors look good and they thank those who helped. The new projectors work even with the lights on and the teachers are excited about them. Kaylee Smith got 1 of 4 high potential coins from a law enforcement camp they attended. The 3 school band participated at state and got 9th out of 33 schools.
