Former Greensburg Fireman arrested

Former Greensburg Fire Department Assistant Chief Andrew Witkemper was taken into custody by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department facing allegations which include:

Attempted child solicitation which involves a period of time between December 1, 2016 and April 30, 2018 alledges that he intentionally engaged in conduct that constitutes a substantial step toward the commission of child solicitation involving a child under 16-years of age.

Attempted possession of child pornography involves a period of time between December 1, 2016 and April 30,2021 and alleges that he intentionally engaged in conduct that constitutes a substantial step toward the commission of possession of child pornography attempting to possess or access pictures that depict sexual conduct by a child less than 18-years of age.

Another attempted possession of child pornography allegation involves a different child less than 18-years of age and a period of time in February 2020.

A child seduction allegation involves a period of time from April 26, 2019 to April 30, 2019.

Dissemination of matter harmful to a minor allegation relates to a period of time from October 2018 to May 2019.

Official misconduct charge alleges that from a period of of time October 2018 to May 2019, Witkemper, a public servant with the Greensburg Fire Department did knowingly commit an offense involving a child in performance of the public servant’s official duties.

A Decatur Circuit Court Grand Jury heard evidence this week and returned indictments against Witkemper and an arrest warrant was issued. 45-year old Andrew Witkemper was taken into custody by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Department issued this statement concerning his arrest.

As a result of a child crimes investigation conducted by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, former Greensburg Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Witkemper was arrested by Decatur County Sheriff’s Deputies after an arrest warrant was issued on October 26, 2021 for the following charges; Child Solicitation, Child Seduction and Possession of Child Pornography Level 5 Felonies.

As with all defendants, Witkemper is innocent until proven guilty.

When the investigation was brought to our attention, the person in question was placed on administrative leave on September 14, 2020. The official notice of retirement for said person was dated and signed by them on October 17, 2020 and the notice was received by the City on October 20, 2020. As of October 17, 2020, the person in question has not been an employee and the City of Greensburg has had no contact or contract with them. This is an ongoing investigation with a pending case, and there is no further comment at this time.
