Westport Town Council

Westport Town Council met on Monday. The council signed the funeral deeds, payroll vouchers, adjustments, and monthly bills.

There was an update on the Westport Water Projects. Division A and B are substantially complete and they are now working on punch list items. Pay App #15 from Thienaman was approved. This now brings them to 100% complete. They discussed the use of remaining funds. They have come up with a list of 13 items these funds can be used on and once they gather the costs for these items they can be submitted to USDA. The final submission letter will be drafted once all items are gathered. This was approved to move forward. The investigation of the sewer system has been completed and they are currently metering to develop a model for stormwater. The board approved for this to continue.

There was an administration of the Oath of Office for Deputy Town Marshall Luke Lozier.

The board discussed the cemetery rates. They did an evaluation of revenue and space. With everything raising in price they will need to consider raising rates as well in order to stay up to date.

The board is considering starting a sidewalk fund to help gather funds for new sidewalks in town.

The town has been experiencing an increase in the number of loose dogs and dog attacks. There are also dogs in town who are not up to date with their shots, such as rabies, which poses a new threat to the community. There will be a dog ordinance implemented soon in order to keep both humans and the dogs safe.

They are looking into placing an EV station for electric car charging. This would be the only charging station between Greensburg and North Vernon.
