Westport Town Council

Westport Town Council met on Monday. The council signed the funeral deeds, payroll vouchers, adjustments, and monthly bills.

There was an update on the Westport Water Projects. The masonry work is done on the building and they are working on the roof currently. Thieneman Construction submitted a pay request for $248,483.81 and a change order which were both approved. Division B is almost done with the service lines in town. There was a reminder given that cars are not supposed to run over water meters because they can break the antenna.

The board discussed Government Alley being one way. This is between Pizzalicious and the Post Office and would make the alley one way heading north. An ordinance will be written for this. There was a discussion on when condemnation hearings should be held. The board would like to hold them once a month in the afternoon. People will be notified in a proper amount of time to come before the board.

The board discussed switching insurance brokers. It was suggested that the town switch to having one insurance broker who knows municipal insurance. They have an offer from a broker who offers great deals and services that could save money and provide better insurance. Gloria received permission to go forward with this.

There was a police car proposal for 2022 presented to the board. The old vehicle they are currently using has had $3,500 spent in repairs and they have received calls concerned about the dent in the door. The request was for $50,000 to be put into the 2022 budget for a new vehicle. This was approved for the budget.

The floor was then opened to the public. One community member requested that the speed limit be reduced from 30 to 20 in their neighborhood. Main Street requested to use the dam area on June 12 for the Covered Bridge Festival. They have gotten approval from the County Commissioners to use the bridge and have a road closure. This was approved.
