Greensburg Girls Soccer 9/18/21

Girls Varsity Soccer falls to Rushville Consolidated 6 – 2

After a long two-week hiatus the Lady Pirates are back in action. The first game back was against conference foe the Rushville Lions. This game is also known as the “Battle For The Ball”. Each season the teams try to keep possession of the trophy. While Greensburg traveled with the trophy to Rushville, they were not able to bring it home.

The game started with zeros on the board and the Lion’s seniors recognizing the Pirate seniors before moving on to their senior recognitions. After the ceremonies, it was only six minutes into the game when the Lions struck first, getting their second shot of the game past the Pirate defense and Senior Captain, Keeper Ella Lowe to light the one up on the scoreboard.

The Pirates did not let much time leave the clock to tie the game back up with a shot from Senior Kayla Haycock. With only seven minutes used, the score was 1-1. Junior Captain, Macey Smith, would also settle a shot in the Lions net but it would not prove to be enough for the pirates. The score at the half would be Pirates 2 Lions 3.

The second half would see three more points by Rushville with Greensburg unable to answer. The Pirate defense could not contain the Lions passing and aggression. The Lion defense was able to force the Pirate offense offsides every time they had a chance to make a drive on goal.

The final score was 6-2 with a Pirates loss. This brings the Lady Pirates to 2-3 for the season and 0-2 in the conference. The next Varsity matchup is Tuesday (9-21) at home with a start time of 5:30. This will also be Greensburg’s Senior Night and all seniors will be recognized.
