Robert Dale Talkington, Jr., 79, of Columbus, passed away at 5:25 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at his residence. He was born on November 15, 1943, in Columbus,the son of Robert Dale and Tillie Marie (Henderson) Talkington. He has been a lifelong resident of Columbus and had graduated from Columbus North High School in 1961. He spent 21 years in law enforcement with the Columbus City Police and retired as Police Chief. He was a member of the Burnsville Christian Church and theFraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed cutting wood, vacationing in Tampa South,and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He married Sandra Ellen Warfield on November 16, 1962, in Columbus. She survives along with his sons, Joseph Talkington of North Vernon, and Robert (Kathy) Talkington of Frankfort, Indiana; his sisters, Karen (Bobby) Weales andPatricia (Morris) Haymaker both of Columbus; his seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death byhis parents and by his brothers, Jimmy Talkington and Ronald Talkington. Following his wishes, he will be cremated with burialto follow at the Bear Creek Cemetery with Rev.
