Decatur County Commissioners

The Decatur County Commissioners met on Tuesday. The board approved the claims.

Mark Mohr gave an update. The Community Crossing Grants have been started as far as paving goes. The project on N CR 700 W is being wedged and then the final coat will be done. The bridge on Washington Street has had the deck poured and is moving forward very well. Supplemental Agreement #2, for an additional right of way for the sidewalk project with the city, for $19,975 was approved.

Kenny Buening gave an update. There have been 67 building inspections, 19 new building permits, and 5 red tags- 2 of which were for no permits. They did attend a code class with several members of the city. Currently they are following up disturbances with letters.

Glenn Wiehe came to the board asking if they could do something about the conditions of trailers in Crestwood Mobile Home Park. There are around 48 trailers on the park and it appears that 99% of them are ready to collapse. Buening is going to start doing further steps in the process as this owner has received letters in the past and is difficult to get ahold of.

Thomas Holloman came to the board to discuss the traffic situation on S CR 850 W between SR 46 and W CR 480 S. There are 2 turns that have the same radius and there have been many accidents, including a fatal one. It’s hard to see the angle of the turns coming up to them and with the speed limit being 55 it’s near impossible to slow down before it’s too late. Outside of writing an ordinance, they can do a few things including putting up an advisory speed limit sign for the curves.

Ordinance 2021-14, for the commissioners to operate the fairgrounds, was approved. Ordinance 2021-15, to begin process for the county highway department, was approved.

The 2026 Reassessment Contract was tabled.

Melanie Nobbe made a request of use for October 23 at the Animal Shelter for a 5K Fundraiser from 10am-2pm. This needs to be filed through the auditors office.

Nick Springmeyer came to the board with an inquiry of if they could water foul hunt at the old reservoir. This was approved.
