Decatur County Commissioners

The Decatur County Commissioners met on Tuesday. The board approved the claims.

Mark Mohr gave an update. They had the trucks out on Sunday and Monday salting the roads. N CR 880 E had had most small pipes put in and most of the dirt work done. CR 700 W had stone shoulders put in to save the road before it got too bad. The contract for bridge inspection with United Consultant for 2021-2024 was approved.

Krista Duvall brought ordinances 2020-27, 2020-21, and 2020-6 to the board which were approved. Kenny Buening gave an update. There have been 40 building inspections and 7 new building permits. A letter was drafted and sent to the owner of the burnt house at Lake McCoy. There has been no response yet. There was a rumor of a new business in New point. Shepherd Boy Farms is a dog toy manufacturer moving in. They toured the building to make sure all was alright.

Treasurer Diane Wenning gave an introduction to the new deputies Kathy Voltz and Danielle Holcombe.

Sheriff Durant came to the board with an update. Maintenance interviews were conducted and they feel the best choice is Greg Lince based on his experience. The Sheriff also requested $30,000 out of cumulative cap to replace a Tahoe and cover the equipment for the truck. This was approved. They now have a full time programs director.

Bryan Robbins and Mary McCarty came to talk about the OCRA Covid Phase 3 grant. This is another small business grant in the amount of $250,000. A business can earn up to $10,000 of the grant and this will be much more competitive than the other phases. The proposal is due January 29. This was approved to pursue.

Krista Duvall requested a drainage board be created. There are starting to be more and more issues and they need help. Suggested that the board have 4 members + the surveyor and meet when requested.
