Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) is proud to announce the installation of a new Safe
Drug Disposal Box, available for anyone in the community. This initiative, in partnership with the
Greensburg Prevention Group (GPG), is part of DCMH’s ongoing commitment to promote public
health and safety by providing a secure and environmentally responsible way to dispose of
expired or unused medications.
Prescription drug misuse and environmental contamination are growing concerns, and improper
disposal of medications can lead to accidental poisonings, substance abuse, and environmental
harm. By offering a safe and convenient disposal option, DCMH and GPG aim to reduce these
risks and help protect your family, our community, and our water supply.
Director of Pharmacy Josh Pike, PharmD said, “With GPG’s help and partnership, we now have
a safe, secure, and compliant way for our community to dispose of expired and unused
medications.”
The items that can be disposed of within the Safe Drug Disposal box include expired
prescription medications and unused or expired over-the-counter medication in any dosage
form, in their original container or a sealed bag.
A few items that cannot be disposed of in the box include herbal remedies, vitamins,
supplements, cosmetics, other personal care products, empty medical devices, batteries,
sharps/needles, mercury-containing thermometers, aerosol cans, and illicit drugs.

resource and service we can now provide. It’s also a great reason for our community to stop in
and see us in the Retail Pharmacy!”
The safe drug disposal box is conveniently located within the Retail Pharmacy in the Hospital at
720 N. Lincoln St., Greensburg, IN. It’s accessible Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to
7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All community members are encouraged to
utilize this service. It ensures the safe disposal of medications, prevents them from falling into
the wrong hands, and eliminates potential environmental hazards.
