Decatur County Visitors Commission

The Decatur County Visitors Commission met on Thursday.

They were awarded $150,000 from the Indiana Destination Development Grant. Kennedy Weaver and Daniel Fayette were both integral parts in them being awarded this grant and the board expressed their gratitude toward them.

The grant committee reviewed the grant requests for the Greensburg Community Schools Chautauqua for $1,500 and the YMCA for $2,500 for 3 pickleball tournaments. The board approved both requests.

Erica Gunn, Daniel Fayette, and Kennedy Weaver gave a marketing update. The decals on the tourism office windows were recently applied and are a real eye catcher. The visitors guide has some small edits left, but soon will be sent off for printing.

Philip Deiwert went to county council to request a pay increase for the part time salary of Erica Gunn. The council approved an increase to $17/hr and are willing to work throughout the year to gradually increase up to the requested $20/hr.

The Bicentennial Celebration Manager will be John Pratt. They discussed the possibility of creating a committee to help out with the celebration. There was discussion of starting a kickball league as a community fundraiser. There has been interest in this event shown throughout the community and they believe they can get sponsors. There will be a survey up on their website under a kickball page that community members can take to show their support.
