If your route of travel involves I-465

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.
 – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a closure on I-465 for concrete pavement and bridge deck patching work.

Beginning on or after Friday, May 31, crews will close I-465 southbound between I-70 and I-65 on the southeast side of Indianapolis. On weekdays, traffic on I-465 southbound will be reduced to three lanes between 46th St. to the I-465/I-70 interchange. On weekends, traffic will be reduced to two lanes. These closures will allow crews to safely complete pavement restoration, bridge deck patching and joint repairs. The following ramps will also be closed starting at the following dates and times:

  • I-70 eastbound and westbound to I-465 southbound (5/31 at 7 p.m.)
  • Washington St./U.S. 40 eastbound and westbound to I-465 southbound (5/31 at 9 a.m.)
  • Brookville Rd./U.S. 52 eastbound and westbound to I-465 southbound (5/31 at 9 a.m.)
  • Shadeland Ave. southbound to I-465 southbound (6/1 at 9 a.m.)
  • Southeastern Ave./Old U.S. 421 to I-465 southbound (6/1 at 9 a.m.)
  • I-74 westbound to I-465 southbound (6/1 at 9 a.m.)
  • Emerson Ave. northbound and southbound to I-465 westbound (6/1 at 9 a.m.)
  • Pendleton Pike eastbound and westbound to I-465 southbound (5/30 at 9 p.m.)

Lane and ramp closures are expected to be removed by the end of June.

The official detour for this work is I-465 southbound to I-70 westbound to I-65 southbound. Motorists are also reminded to visit 511in.org to map their route.

This is the second of six parts for I-465 restoration work between I-65 and U.S. 31 on the east side of Indianapolis. This work is expected to be complete in spring 2025.

INDOT reminds drivers to consider worker safety by slowing down, using caution and avoiding distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
