Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals

The Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals met on Wednesday.

Maurice & Wendy Bohman requested a “Special Exception” in an A-1 zoning classification to build a Wedding Venue (Event Center). The name of this venue is “Into the Woods” and they hope to be a high end event center for weddings, proms, galas, etc.. They are an eloquent farm industrial space that promotes agri-tourism in Decatur County. They have done extensive research on the type of business they wish to run and know that the main concern is safety of those around them. There will always be security guards present as well as 1-2 venue managers, no shots or outside alcohol allowed, and monitored cameras for not only the guest safety but theirs and their neighbors as well. This fits in the BZA special exception variance guidelines as an event space. While the area does hold residential clusters, there is are 8 businesses along the road including the golf course and 9 houses built this year alone that have added to the traffic on the road. The petitioners also have letters of support from EDC Director Bryan Robbins and Executive Director of Greensburg Decatur County Chamber of Commerce Dawn Lowe. The board appreciated the amount of work and research done and recognize that this is a secluded area that has no other real value. There were concerns from neighbors on traffic and safety as well as a letter requesting they table this decision for further information. The petitioners stated that this is a high end venue space that will be kept clean not only for the neighbors, but for the looks of the space as well. The noise level will be contained to inside the building and will have a strict shutdown of 11 pm. The property is owned by the petitioners in Greensburg, Salt Creek Township. Petition 2022-13 was approved.
