The Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals meeting began at 6:30 pm on February 7, 2024. The Election of the 2024 Officers was postponed due to not currently having the 5th appointment to the board. The board approved the meeting minutes from the December 6, 2023 meeting.
The only petition brought before the board was BZA Petition 2024-1 – John Marcelletti for Milestone LTD is requesting a “Variance” from the maximum height allowed of 60’ to 305’ for a communication tower and a “Variance” from the required side setback of 60’ to a setback of approx. 18’ on the West side. The request falls under Decatur County Ordinance #12 & 13. The property is currently owned by Milestone LTD and is located at 4814 W Old State Rd 46, Greensburg, in Clay Township.
They have already secured Verizon Wireless as a company utilizing the cell tower and they are working with other cell providers to join in the use of the tower. John Marcelleti, Milestone LTD stated, “At this time there is no tower within 3 miles and this creates a “dead zone” or low cell signal.” This build will only be the cell tower and a concrete pad area without any buildings being constructed.
Joyce Brindley, BZA board member asked, “Have you spoken to your adjoining property owners? Are they in agreeance with this build?” John responded to her that yes all adjoining property owners are in agreeance with the tower.
John stated that they have approved FAA approval for the height of the structure and that the structure is of standard height.
The board unanimously approved BZA Petition 2024-1. The meeting was adjourned.
The next BZA meeting will be held at a special time and location. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm on March 6, 2024, in the EMA Meeting Room 315 S Ireland St # E, Greensburg, IN 47240
