Decatur County Commissioners

The Decatur County Commissioners met on Monday. The board approved the claims.

Mark Mohr gave an update. There is an intersection on E CR 900 S and S CR 60 SW that is being redone. N CR 880 E was surveyed and there will be multiple culvert replacements. They are currently trying to get all trucks prepared for the winter.

Krista Duvall presented ordinance 2020-19, to change an A-1 to a B-2 zoning classification for a storage unit. This was tabled. There was also an ordinance discussion. The indiana Farm Bureau representatives opposed the non reciprocal setbacks and would also like a maximum setback of 400 from the property line. There was another person who wanted the setback to be 500 or more because hog farmers are dominating and should respect neighbors property rights. Jerome Buening did not agree with the 370 setback presented. However, did agree with the 400 setback. The motion to submit the 400 setback from the property line to the APC for consideration was approved.

Kenny Buening gave an update. There have been 47 inspections and 26 new building permits. Buening had also drafted and sent the second letter to a property for cleanup. There have been no letters drafted for Lake McCoy yet.

Sheriff Durant requested extra cumulative capital money for equipment for vehicles. This would be around $15,000. This was approved. The Sheriff also discussed maintenance issues and how they are outside the expertise of deputies and cause a safety issue.

Jeff Kraus requested to set traps at the old reservoir for muskrats. There will be a non-liable waiver written. This was approved. Adina Roberts requested a pay increase for poll workers since they will have to do much more cleaning. This was approved.

A new watering system for the courthouse tree was approved. The tourism board will help fund this. The 2021 Holiday schedule was approved.
