Decatur County Fair Board

The Decatur County Fair Board met on Monday.

The Secretary report was approved.

The treasures report was presented. The total amount for all accounts is $44,199.59. There is still more grant money coming in and they are in a good spot by having money in the accounts before the fair begins. The report was approved.

The Livestock Committee discussed adding dairy to the auction at their meeting. It was decided that they will not be adding a dairy category to the auction for this fair; however this does not mean the discussion is over on adding it for future fairs.

There was an update given on the grounds and track. They found a family who will mow and they got the blades for their mowers taken care of. The family will mow, weed eat, and spray. The track is in decent shape and the county used a bush hog to help clean up the grounds.

The 4-H Council gave an update. The app is looking good and should be up by Friday. Anything fair related can be added to the app and there will still be a website to use with the same information. The board approved the information be released for the app and website. There will be a limited amount of physical fair books available. Lowe’s and Soy Processors are giving bids for the shavings for livestock and they will go with the lowest bidder. The plywood has been hung in the headquarters building for a mural to be live painted. The flowerbeds in front of the community building will be mulched and have planted flowers. The 10 year member banners are in.

The homemakers are getting geared up for the fair. There will be no baked items in fair entries and no cupcake eating contest this year.

They will need at least 3 people a night for removing and replacing trash cans. This will be after all the events are over and the midway closes. All fire extinguishers have been tested on the fair grounds.
