2024 Legislative Highlights
The 2024 legislative session ended last week, and I am pleased to see the following Senate Republican priorities move to the governor’s desk for final consideration.
Improve students’ reading skills, SEA 1
Provide Science of Reading instructionCommit to early detection and remediation for students not reading at grade levelAs a last resort, retain students who are not reading well enough to move on to fourth grade
Expand child care access and affordability, SEA 2
Help more people become child care workersCut red tape that makes it harder to operate a child care centerCreate a micro facility pilot program that could be a statewide model
Ensure responsible use of taxpayer dollars, SEA 4
Create an ongoing process to review and return unused state funds to the state’s General FundEnable state agencies to lower or eliminate fines and fees more quickly
Protect Hoosiers’ health, SEA 5
Help Indiana utility companies replace unhealthy lead water lines in Indiana homes and businesses faster and more efficiently
