Bartholomew County criminal reckless incident alleged


On April 8, 2023, at approximately 3:40 p.m., deputies responded to the 7100 block of west SR 46 in
reference to a shots fired call. Prior to deputies arrival, it was reported that a nearby neighbor was target shooting and the bullets were coming close to the reporting party’s house where children were playing in the front yard.
Upon deputies arrival, contact was made with Jason Burns, 39 of Columbus, who stated he was practice
shooting in his backyard towards his neighbor’s house to the north.


While arresting Burns on an allegation of criminal recklessness with a firearm, he allegedly resisted law enforcement by grabbing a firearm while being detained. Burns was arrested on five counts involving allegations of criminal recklessness with a firearm and resisting law enforcement with a deadly weapon.
This is a preliminary investigation. All persons are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
