From Justin Speer

On behalf of the Decatur County Fireman’s Association, it is our distinct honor to recognize Rick Johnson of the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department for his outstanding contributions to the fire service in Decatur County, Indiana. Rick was recently presented with the prestigious Ray Bentley Service Award, an honor given in memory of Ray Bentley, whose legacy includes immense contributions to the fire service community, the Decatur County Fire Association, and the establishment of the Decatur County Fire Academy.

The Ray Bentley Service Award is a recognition of exceptional service to our volunteer fire departments and a commitment to the growth and safety of our county’s fire service. Rick’s efforts in supporting and advancing the mission of volunteer fire departments across Decatur County embody the spirit of this award, and we are incredibly grateful for his dedication and tireless work.

Rick has been a firefighter with the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department since 2014, where he has served with distinction. In addition to his work with Clarksburg, Rick has also served the broader community for five years as the Deputy Director of the Decatur County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). In this role, he worked closely with local agencies, helped coordinate emergency responses, and supported public safety initiatives throughout the county. His leadership in both the fire service and emergency management has had a significant and lasting impact on the safety and well-being of Decatur County residents.

Rick’s accomplishments include being honored with the Optimus Fireman of the Year Award and the Stephen Decatur Award in 2018—recognitions of his exemplary service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the community.

Rick’s dedication to the fire service, his leadership in emergency management, and his continuous efforts to serve and protect the citizens of Decatur County reflect the same passion and commitment that Ray Bentley demonstrated throughout his career. As Rick continues to serve and inspire, we look forward to his ongoing leadership and the positive impact he will undoubtedly have on the future of Decatur County’s volunteer fire departments.
