Construction Kicks Off for PowerStream Fiber High-Speed Internet on the Way

Greensburg, Indiana – June 4, 2025

A significant milestone was reached on June 3, as construction officially began on PowerStream
Fiber – the highly anticipated broadband initiative from Decatur County REMC.
In partnership with D&H Contracting Inc., crews have now hit the ground running, beginning the
process of hanging fiber-optic lines that will soon deliver fast, reliable internet. This marks a major
step forward in the cooperative’s ongoing mission to serve its members not just with electricity, but
with the tools and technology modern life demands.
Construction is kicking off in Ripley County and will work its way northwest into Decatur County,
progressing toward Greensburg. As crews move through this footprint, members can expect to see
activity in both rural and residential areas along the route.
“This is an exciting moment for our members and our entire community,” said Brett Abplanalp, CEO
of Decatur County REMC. “We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to plan, prepare, and
position this project for success. Now, we’re shifting into action.”
Residents may notice trucks, trailers, and specialized equipment as installation ramps up. D&H
Contracting Inc. will be responsible for building out the fiber infrastructure, and their teams will be
visible throughout the service territory.
“We want folks to know what to expect,” Brett added. “These crews are here to build something that
will benefit all of us, so don’t be alarmed if you see unfamiliar vehicles or personnel working in the
area. They’re helping us build the future.”
