The board voted to approve the hiring of Amy Gray for the position of NDHS/SDHS Student Services Coordinator. Before the vote was taken, two board members expressed concern about not hiring someone with the education and experience necessary to assist students in mental health situations. Both members emphasized that their concern was not a reflection on Amy Gray personally and voiced full support for her joining the corporation. However, they felt the position requires someone with more specialized training to support students experiencing mental health challenges.
Barb Lecher provided a public comment, stating that she worked diligently up to the end of her contract on June 30, 2025, to ensure everything was as up to date as possible. She shared that she felt unappreciated and after serving the Decatur County School Corporation for 34 years without receiving any acknowledgment or well wishes from central office or the board upon her retirement. Barb did express her appreciation to Todd Mauer for reaching out to thank her for her dedication. Following her remarks, Todd Mauer again thanked Barb for her hard work, noting that she helped both of his children throughout their school years.
