Greensburg, IN – The Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce hosted its 40th Annual Summer Day of Golf “FUN”draiser on Friday, August 1 at North Branch Golf Course, welcoming 33 teams for a full day of networking, friendly competition, and community spirit.
New to this year’s event was the Phase Financial Helicopter Ball Drop, which brought a memorable and exciting start to the day. Making the moment even more special, Fred Huser, a Vietnam Army veteran and father-in-law to Kelby Owens, sponsor of the Helicopter Ball Drop, flew into North Branch Golf Course – marking the first time in 55 years that Huser had flown in a Huey helicopter since Vietnam. As the helicopter hovered over the course, hundreds of numbered golf balls were released, each one aiming for the target below. The winning ball belonged to Lilly Corya, an intern with the Decatur County Community Foundation, who walked away with $1,222.50.
Golfers enjoyed a four-person scramble with contests throughout the course, sponsor-hosted holes, lunch, swag bags, and a 19th-hole celebration to close out the afternoon. Contests included longest drive, closest to the pin, and other creative challenges that kept players engaged and energized throughout the day. Taking home first-place honors on the Bridge/Meadow Course were Nick Kirschner, Austin Seale, Peyton Buening, and Blake Nigg with RBSK Partners PC. On the Prairie/Meadow Course, the winning team was Randy Ellis, Mike Gudgeon, Jim Rowland, and Tim Brockman.
The outing not only provided a memorable day on the green – it also served as a fundraiser in support of the GDC Chamber of Commerce’s mission to foster a positive business environment by providing strategic leadership, advocacy, and valuable resources to its members. Through championing local businesses, offering educational opportunities, and promoting economic development throughout the community, the Chamber continues to create a strong foundation for a thriving business community. The event offered a relaxed and enjoyable setting for professionals to build meaningful connections and strengthen local partnerships while supporting the Chamber’s mission.
“This event continues to be one of our most anticipated traditions,” said Chamber Executive Director Dawn Lowe. “Celebrating 40 years of this outing is a true testament to the support of our members and the vibrancy of our business community. We’re especially grateful to all our sponsors, volunteers, and teams who helped make the day a success.”
The Chamber would like to extend special thanks to helicopter sponsor Phase Financial, along with event sponsors including First Financial, Decatur County Memorial Hospital, City of Greensburg, Enneking Auto Body & True Blue Autos, Taff Furniture, Jake Mattox – Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, The tAAp, Five Star Fab & Erectors, CRF Roofing & Restoration, RBSK Partners, Lohrum Electrical, Delta Faucet, and the many additional hole, swag, and contest sponsors.
