On August 17th, Indiana State Troopers arrested a Cincinnati, Ohio woman after she drove intoxicated westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-74 in Dearborn County, Indiana which resulted in a collision with a state trooper’s vehicle.
Shortly after 1:00 am, multiple troopers patrolling on I-74 overheard a Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office dispatch of a 2020 Toyota Camry, later determined to be driven by Erin Dowers, age 35, Cincinnati, Ohio, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-74 near the Indiana/Ohio State Line. Other callers continued to report the wrong way driver as the vehicle continued westbound. Trooper Brian Weigel observed the vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes near the 161-mile marker.
Trp. Weigel positioned his police vehicle in front of Dowers’ vehicle. She entered the median of I-74 to avoid Trp. Weigel’s vehicle. Trp. Weigel’s vehicle and Dowers’ vehicle collided at a slow speed. Dowers continued westbound past Trp. Weigel. Trp. Jordan Hartmann then assisted in getting her to stop.
After an investigation, it was determined that Erin Dowers was intoxicated. She was arrested and transported to the Dearborn County Jail where she was incarcerated on preliminary charges of Operating While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving.
Sgt. Jared Black and Trp. Jordan Craig also assisted with the investigation. |
