Indiana State Trooper Among Two Injured in Two Vehicle Crash

(Indianapolis, IN)–On October 16, 2025, at approximately 5:29 p.m., Trooper Alexander Maxwell with the Indiana State Police’s Indianapolis District was injured when his police car was struck by another vehicle while he was responding to a call for service.

Preliminary investigation indicates Trooper Maxwell exited westbound I-465 at Keystone Avenue on the north side of Indianapolis.  As Maxwell entered the intersection with his police car’s emergency lights and siren fully activated, he came to a stop due to having a red light.  After coming to a stop and observing traffic yielding to him, Trooper Maxwell proceeded into the intersection.  At this time, Joshua Heron, of Indianapolis, IN, was driving his black 2025 Hyundai Tucson northbound on Keystone Avenue.  Heron observed the traffic light change to yellow and therefore proceeded through the intersection and struck the driver’s side of Maxwell’s police car.

Maxwell and Heron were both transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Indiana State Police Sergeant Timothy James, Troopers Ryan McKnight, Solomon Perry, Jacob Day, and Damon Munn were assisted at the scene of the crash by the Indianapolis Fire Department, Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services, and Paddock’s Wrecker.

This crash is still under investigation, but at this time, neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected to be a factor in this crash.  There is no additional information available for release.
