The Carson Hughes Foundation is spearheading a series of hikes throughout 2026 titled “Grief Hike.” Guided by the message, “You don’t have to walk the journey alone,” these hikes are designed to bring people together through shared movement, reflection, and support.
Following their first hike of the year, the foundation shared a heartfelt post on their Facebook page, capturing the spirit and impact of the experience. They invite the community to join them on future hikes throughout the year, with the full schedule included below.
The Carson Hughes Foundation was created to honor the life and legacy of Carson Hughes, a talented photographer whose creativity and spirit continue to inspire others.
Our First Grief Hike Was a Beautiful Success
When we first arrived at the dam, we were greeted by something truly special — an adult and a juvenile bald eagle perched quietly over the creek. We couldn’t help but smile, confident that Carson had once photographed (and possibly named) that very same adult eagle. In that moment, it felt like a powerful reminder of the lasting bond we share with those we love — a connection that grief can never break. We took it as a little God wink that we are on the right path by creating space for grief, healing, and connection.

Strangers came together carrying a common bond of loss, and along the trail we shared memories, stories, and the love we still hold for those we miss. There was comfort in knowing we didn’t have to walk alone.

We are so grateful for everyone who showed up with open hearts. This is just the beginning, and we are already looking forward to our February grief hike.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” — Psalm 34:18
