GREENSBURG OPTIMIST YOUTH OF THE MONTH JANUARY 2026

Greensburg Community High School senior, Tyler Williams, is the January Optimist Youth of the
Month. Tyler is the son of Lora and Tim Williams. Tyler is at the top of his class with a 3.98 GPA
after 7 semesters here at GCHS. Tyler’s transcript reads of four years of advanced coursework
especially in math, science, and engineering classes. Tyler will earn his Indiana College Core and
Academic and Technical Honors diploma.
Tyler is a three-season varsity football letterman whose accomplishments include serving on the
Leadership Council and earning both the No Quarter Award and the Chasing Greatness Award.
He is also a four-season varsity swimming letterman, recognized as the 2024 Most Improved
Swimmer. Tyler holds school records as a member of the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay
teams and was named EIAC All-Conference in 2025.
Beyond athletics, Tyler is deeply involved in Indiana Youth and Government, where he has held
numerous leadership roles, including Delegation President, Committee Chair, Senate President
Pro Tempore Candidate, and member of the Youth Governor’s Cabinet. A dedicated 10-year
member of 4-H, Tyler has also spent six years in Junior Leaders and currently serves as
president of the Future Builders Club. His commitment to service extends to his work at
Southeastern Indiana 4-H Camp, where he has served as Junior Director, Group Leader, and
Counselor. Additionally, Tyler has gained valuable civic experience as a Page at the Indiana State
Senate and has participated in the Decatur County Tiger Sharks and the Decatur County Youth
Running Club.
At GCHS, Tyler is highly engaged in school culture and extracurricular activities. He has served
as Vice President of the Class of 2026 for four years and is currently the Vice President of the
National Honor Society. His leadership and character have also earned him recognition as a
Hoosier Boys State nominee and attendee. Tyler is further involved in the Mayor’s Youth Council,
FCA Young Men’s Group, and Junior Optimist Club.
Outside of school and service, Tyler balances multiple jobs, including working as a car wash
attendant at Kennelly & Daughters Car Wash, flipping furniture at Heritage Hill Events, and
serving as an assistant at Williams Law Office, P.C. In his free time, he also enjoys volunteering
with multiple agencies including the Greensburg Youth Football program, the Bread of Life Soup
Kitchen, and the Greensburg Rotary.
Tyler exemplifies many stanzas of the Optimist Creed especially:

others.
