Decatur County Commissioner Meeting- 2/16/26
This meeting began with the approval of the minutes from the February 2, 2026, meeting. They then went on to approve the claims and payroll.
Leanne from EMA Communications wanted to review some quotes for flooring replacement and dispatch, which were approved. Then she went on to talk about how they wish to switch from their current notification system(Code Red) to Motorola or HipLink. The Commissioners chose to approve Motorola.
Doug Westerfeld from APC had some petitions to be approved.
Petition 2023-13 Cody and Jacqueline Schnider to subdivide 2.99 out of 62.7 acres and move the two point nine acres from A1 to A2, which got approved.
Petition 2025-2 Brian and Amy Polling to rezone 2.99 acres out of 1.72 acres from A1 to A2 to the primary, approved.
Petition 2025-15 Tyler and Crystal Brown to rezone 2.99 acres out of 16.505 acre track from A1 to A2 to build a primary residence, approved.
Petition 2025-9 Joe and Arlene Stewart to rezone 1.5 acres out of a 1.5-acre track from A1 to A2 to build a primary residence, approved.
Petition 2025-20 Sam and Carol Kuster 5 acres from out of 121.86 acres, rezone 2.99 acres, approved.
Petition 2025-21 Jonathan Crow to rezone a 2-acre track from A1 to B3 for a repair shop, approved.
Petition 2025-23 to subdivide 4.5 acres out of 153.94 acres and to rezone 2.99 acres out of the 4.5 acres from A1 to A2, approved.
Petition 2025-30 Anthony Adams to subdivide 1.5 acres out of 15.79 acres and rezone it from A1 to A2 to the primary, approved.
Sean Durbin, with the health department, wishes to install cameras to help with security at the health department.
Ron Higgins, the new district veteran service officer, is required under the law of Indiana Code 10-17-1-9 to brief every county commissioner’s office of meeting twice a year. This is to establish a comprehensive and mandatory standard of accreditation for veteran service officers who are conducting operational business within the state of Indiana. Setting clear rules for accrediting service officers to help with benefit claims for veterans.
Next, they covered County Road 200 West with parking and striping. They want to make parallel parking on both sides of the road and a 5ft walkway with delineator posts; they approved the RFP.
The highway department reports they have set about 350 tons of sand mix and about 165 tons of salt. They talked about how transport loads are not feasible and how they would have to double their usage to make them feasible.
They also mentioned the annex Cad drawing, they decided to pay for both interior and exterior drawings. They also made it so they have a little wiggle room for the ball diamond letter of intent.
The highway department bids were reviewed, SC construction won.
There are a few events, such as the United Fund strawberry festival, that requested the use of facilities. There is also an opportunity expo this Wednesday at the Greensburg High School. Among a few other events that are coming up
