On Friday morning, a two-vehicle crash on I-74 near the Indiana/Ohio State Line claimed the life of an 18-year-old Ohio man.
At approximately 7:45 am, Master Trooper Chris Clark was traveling on I-74 in northeastern Dearborn County, Indiana when he drove up on a crash with serious injuries that had just occurred on I-74 westbound near the 170-mile marker.
The initial investigation indicated a 2023 Ford pickup truck, being driven by Gerald Hazel, age 30, Yuma, Arizona was traveling westbound on I-74 in the left passing lane. A 2004 Honda motorcycle, being driven by Christopher Davis, age 18, Hooven, Ohio was also traveling westbound on I-74 behind Hazel’s vehicle.
The evidence indicates that Davis was traveling well in excess of the posted speed limit when his motorcycle collided with the rear of Hazel’s vehicle. The force of the collision ejected him from the motorcycle causing him to sustain serious injuries.
Davis was transported by ambulance to University of Cincinnati Hospital where he later passed away as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash. Hazel was not injured in the crash and is fully cooperating with investigators.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Christopher Davis’ family has been notified.
The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, West Harrison Police Department, Harrison Fire and EMS, and the Hamilton County, Ohio Coroner’s Office.
