Commissioners Discuss Contract Renewals, Comprehensive Plan Updates, and Proposed Land Purchase at July 6 Meeting

Tim Ortman, Highway Department received permission to enter into an agreement with Enterprise to get rid of 3 pick up trucks and replace them with vehicles through Enterprise. This agreement also includes fleet management and sets the department up for vehicle rotations moving forward to ensure that the county get their use out of the vehicles but also ensures a return on investment when it is time to sell them.

Tim also stated that he has reached out to vendors that manufacture larger trucks that the department would like to purchase in the near future. Tim is hoping to hear back on costs and more information in the next few weeks.

The commissioners approved the Highway Department purchasing a $15,000 Kosciuszko Pug Mill (A pugmill, pug mill, or pug is a machine in which clay or other materials are extruded in a plastic state or a similar machine for the trituration of ore. Industrial applications are found in pottery, bricks, cement and some parts of the concrete and asphalt mixing processes.)

The commissioners approved Sheriff Bill Meyerrose’s request to sign a contract renewal with Southern Health Partners.

Doug Westerfeld, Area Plan Director provided an update on the counties comprehensive plan. Doug stated that they have received a draft of the plan and that the Steering Committee members will review that plan at their meeting on July 16th. After that final review is made the next step will be taking it public for a hearing.

Mike Snyder, EMA received approval to apply for a $1,000 grant from Duke Energy to purchase heat related items. Mike stated that he will work the Department of Health on this.

The commissioners approved a location for the Inclusion Baseball Field at Rebekah Park. The field will be on the west side of the road just north of the playground.

The commissioners approved Resolution 2026-13 to explore purchasing two acres of land behind the Bowling Alley. The commissioners explained that they need to approve a resolution to begin the process. Their next step will be gathering two appraisals to establish an amount to offer the property owner.

The commissioners approved a public right of way vacation in Clarksburg.
