The meeting began with the normal approvals.
Leah Kane, Arts and Cultural Council Representative received approval to proceed with installation of a mural on the Connection Trail near Barachel Lane in Greensburg. The mural was made possible through a grant from Visit Greensburg. The commissioners stated that they were excited to see this project and that they reviewed the artist’s portfolio that will be doing the mural and that she had great work.
Tim Ortman, Decatur County Highway Department provided an update to the many projects that are being completed throughout the county. Tim also stated that they received delivery of 300 tons of salt in preparation for winter weather. He stated that they have received an unofficial detour for US 421 due to the construction on I-74.
Chris Noblitt, Decatur County Parks & Recreation brought up safety concerns with how citizens are driving and using the private drive into Rebecca Park. After discussion from the commissioners with input from Tim Ortman. The commissioners approved temporary closure of the entrance until a permanent closure could be placed.
Matthew Speer, Decatur County Animal Shelter received approval to apply for a $20,000 grant through the Decatur County Community Foundation. The funding will go towards Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) efforts. Speer commented that over the past year the shelter has seen an increase of 46% in cat intakes.
Patty Hensley reminded those in attendance of the Minde’s Trails and Tales Memorial Ride. This is a jeep and UTV ride that memorializes the late Minde Myers who served as the Animal Shelter Director and the funds from the ride go directly to the funds needed for outfitting the future new animal shelter.
