Fatal accident in Bartholomew County

On November 14, 2022 at approximately 7:20 P.M. deputies from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s
Office were dispatched to a report of traffic accident in the area of E 100 S and S SR 46. A caller had
reported coming upon a semi that had been involved in a collision that was blocking the roadway. The
caller later found the other vehicle involved in the collision, a white SUV of which the driver was found
to be unresponsive.

After the arrival of law enforcement, fire department and medical personnel, the driver of the white
SUV was found to be deceased. The driver later identified by the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office
as, Sarbjit Singh 44 of Greenwood, IN. Due to the extensive damage caused to the vehicle, Singh had to
be extricated from the vehicle by the responding fire departments.

According to the semi driver, he was traveling northbound when the white SUV traveling southbound
crossed the center line resulting in the collision. The driver of the semi cooperated in all aspects of the
investigation including a blood draw, however impairment is not thought to be a factor at this time.

This incident prompted the activation of the joint crash reconstruction team, which consists of members
of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbus Police Department. At this time this
incident is still under investigation by the reconstruction team.

Sheriff Matthew A. Myers said, “This is yet again another example of interagency cooperation that is
providing ever increasing services to the citizens of Bartholomew County. Before the creation of the
reconstruction team area, law enforcement was limited in the detail in which they could investigate
incidents like this.”
