Adams Township Volunteer Fire Department Structure Fire

Public Information Release:

Adams Township Volunteer Fire Department
Structure Fire – County Road 340 North
Date: October 6, 2025
Time of Dispatch: 3:26 PM

On October 6, 2025, at approximately 3:26 PM, the Adams Township Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a structure fire in the area of County Road 340 North.

Crews responded with Engine 151 and arrived on scene 11 minutes after the initial dispatch, finding a detached garage fully engulfed in flames. The fire had spread into the yard west of the structure and began extending toward a nearby residence to the east.

The Greensburg Fire Department arrived moments later and began assisting with fire suppression efforts. Saint Paul Volunteer Fire Department and Burney-Clay Township Volunteer Fire Department were also dispatched and responded with tankers and manpower support.

Through coordinated efforts, firefighters were able to halt the spread of the fire, preventing significant damage to the nearby residence. The home sustained only minor damage to siding and shingles due to radiant heat. After the fire was brought under control, units conducted overhaul operations to extinguish remaining hot spots.

An investigation was conducted following extinguishment. Based on witness interviews and evidence at the scene, the fire was determined to have originated in the northwest corner of the structure. The cause was ruled accidental, resulting from welding activity taking place in that area at the time.

The Adams Township Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the Greensburg Fire Department, Saint Paul Volunteer Fire Department, and Burney-Clay Township Volunteer Fire Department for their response and assistance. Appreciation is also extended to Decatur County EMS and local law enforcement officers for their support on scene.

Information provided was posted on the Fire Department’s Facebook.
