Columbus man dies in semi-van crash

On Thursday, November 14, 2024 at approximately 11:42 AM, Decatur County
Communications received a call advising of a semi versus van crash in the area of St. Rd.
46 and County Road 200 S.
Upon arrival by deputies of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, both the semi and
van were located in a field on the south side of St. Rd. 46. The driver of the van was
pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries believed sustained from the crash.
The investigation into the crash is continuing, but the initial investigation indicates that
the van was traveling eastbound on St. Rd. 46 and the semi was traveling westbound on
St. Rd. 46 when the semi went left of center and struck the van head on.
The deceased has been identified as Marcus Anthony Yano, 72 years of age, from
Columbus, IN. The driver of the semi was identified as Manav Rai, 23 years of age, from Newark, DE.
St. Rd. 46 was closed for approximately three and one-half hours for the investigation
and clearing of the wreckage.
