The new Decatur County Community Pool is closing in on itsfundraising goal thanks to the recent support of the Greensburg Redevelopment Commission.
At its April meeting the Commission committed $250,000 toward the new facility.
“This funding commitment reflects the Greensburg Redevelopment Commission’s belief that quality public infrastructure is a catalyst for economic development,” said Darren Burkhart, Greensburg Redevelopment Commission Board President. “By providing funding for the Decatur County Community Pool, we are supporting quality-of-life amenities that help attract new families, retain local talent, and encourage investment in our community. Amenities such as this pool strengthen our community’s appeal, support local businesses, and contribute to economic growth.”
In total, $4,224,187.20 has been raised for the project. Just over $275,000 remains to fully fund the new facility.
Fundraising efforts began late last year in an effort to open a facility this summer. The project is currently on pace to open in June.
“We are very thankful for the RDC’s support of this project,” said Chris Noblitt, Executive Director of Decatur County Parks and Recreation. “The new facility will not only enhance local quality of life, but it will be a wonderful offering for the thousands of visitors traveling to town for tournaments at the Youth Sports Complex.”
“We thank every donor who has been a part of the effort to ensure our whole community has a swimming pool to enjoy,” said Tami Wenning, Executive Director of the Decatur County Community Foundation. “It’s been such an honor to be a part of this project and hear donors’ stories about what the old pool meant to them and why they would like to ensure a new facility becomes reality.”
The new Decatur County Community Pool will resemble the size of the former Allen Memorial Pool. It will have a beach-style zero entry to accommodate users of all abilities. There will be a family slide for adults to ride alongside small children andanother four-flume slide to alleviate wait times. A new splash pad measures 48’x43’ and will include a “dump bucket” and several other fun water features.
The Decatur County Community Foundation was the first large donor to announce its support for a community pool and continues to accept community donations toward the effort. Gifts of $2,500 or more will be publicly acknowledged at the pool via plaques, signage, and other means of recognition, depending on the level of gift.
