Decatur County Commissioners

The Decatur County Commissioners met on Tuesday.

Mark Mohr gave an update. Mohr recently became aware of a road closure on State Road 3 near South Decatur Jr./Sr. High School. After calling INDOT, it became aware that they had forgotten to alert the county of this closure and sent a recommended detour route as soon as they could. The county now has an unofficial detour route and the road will hopefully be opened before school starts. The unofficial detour was approved. The Westport Covered Bridge has been completed and is now open. The asphalt bids that were opened at the last meeting have been reviewed. The bid was awarded to the lowest bidder, which was Globe Asphalt with a majority vote of 2- with Commissioner Koors abstaining.

Kenny Buening gave an update. There have been 36 building inspections, 9 new building permits, and 3 red tags- one for no main breaker and 2 for no smoke detectors.

Rick Anderson with Venergy came to the board with an RFQ. They were the only company to submit an RFQ for the project. The next steps would be to sit down and plan out the project, then sign a interact after figuring out the scope of the project. Venergy does seek out local vendors as much as possible during a project. This was tabled for review.

The board discussed the lease for the Power of the Past. There will be templates and outlines set in place. They will also need to have the county surveyor mark the boundaries off for the area.

Danny Peters and Bill Metz came to the board to thank Mark Koors for all of his work to set up the Decatur County Fair. They also the thanked the auditors office for all the extra work that was put on them during this project.

There was a discussion on the Courthouse Clock. The clock has not worked in a year and currently has to be reset manually. A company did send in pricing for electronic clock controls that could be changed without climbing the tower as well as LED light controls. This was tabled for review.

The new interim director for 911 will be Karen Beck.
