Decatur County Commissioners

The Decatur County Commissioners met on Monday.

Todd Houk gave an update on the highway department. They are continuing to patch and mow and have begun to spray for vegetation. They continue to work on bridge maintenance and repairs. Resolution 2023-7 for the execution of INDOT agreements was approved. The single bid for stone was awarded to Newpoint Stone. The single bid for fuel was awarded to Premier Ag.

Kenny Buening gave an update. There have been 35 building inspections, 13 new permits/plan reviews, and 2 red tags which have both been corrected. There were letters sent out to 2 nuisance properties.

Sean Durbin with the Health Department gave an update on the Governor’s Public Health Commission. This has become Senate Enrolled Act #1. The structure of the health board will need to change due to the Act. The funding requirements and additional responsibilities were given to the commissioners. They are compiling a list of partners to help improve the health of the community, which will be measured using key performance indicators, and would like the input of the commissioners.

Pay application 7 for the Highway Department was approved.

Kevin Krekeler and Steve Leist presented the Assured Partner’s Insurance Renewal. This was approved.

The board approved the use of facilities request for the Decatur County YMCA non competitive Bike Fundraiser. This will be June 24 from 5:15 am to 5:15 pm and they have proof of insurance.

The commissioners plan to place a memorial bench at both the fairgrounds and Power of the Past to honor former Commissioner Chuck Emsweller.

The community is officially broadband ready on the county’s side.

Fair booth rental sign-up will be June 10 from 10am-12pm at the Decatur County Fairgrounds.
