The Decatur County Commissioners met on Monday.
Todd Houk gave an update on the highway department. They are continuing with mowing, patching, and sign maintenance. They received the school zone signs for South Decatur Elementary School and plan to place them this week. They have been spraying vegetation and keeping an eye out for poison hemlock, which they have yet to find. There are two different kinds of hemlock- one called Queen Anne’s Lace which is safe and poison hemlock which can be identified with a purple stem. The bridge inspectors have been frowning upon cattle gates fastened to the bridges, which will need to be fixed. The board tabled the decision on the grader lease for further discussion and information.
Kenny Buening gave an update. There have been 38 inspections, 18 new building permits/plan reviews, 3 permit renewals, and 1 red tag for a remodel without a permit which has been corrected. They received 2 complaints on nuisance properties which have been followed up. The St. Omar property will need a hard fix date as the mess has still not been cleaned up. There was a neighbor that came to discuss the several properties in Burney. Buening said these properties have had ongoing issues. The homes are either vacant or riddled with junk and the neighbor is tired of looking at them and wants the place cleaned up to deter riffraff. The commissioners are trying to find ways to help the owners and neighbors as removal and demolition can be costly.
Sheriff Bill Meyerrose presented the contract renewal with Accurate Controls. This was approved. The medical contract was tabled. The board approved of the disposal of 2 vehicles- a 2014 Chevy Tahoe and a 2018 Ford Explorer.
Treasurer Diane Wenning presented the spring tax collection of over $24 million.
Krista Duvall presented Ordinances 2022-24, 2023-6, and 2023-9. These were approved. At the last meeting, Richard Friend made a request to vacate 2 alleys in Milford. Due to locates and deed discrepancies, this was tabled indefinitely.
The board approved Dylan LeGere’s request to vacate an alley. This in Clarksburg and the petitioner owns all 3 sides.
The Lake McCoy Committee had their first meeting where they discussed all complaints to come up with an initial game plan. Their primary concern is building safety and there is a pending lawsuit with the trailer park and it’s previous owner. They are trying to make first contact with all property owners and are seeing if there are any obvious signs of raw sewage. Sean Durbin is taking a test of the water in the lake and should have the results back before their next meeting.
The board approved the covered bridge certification.
The board approved to establish a tax sale calendar.
Resolution 2023-9, for the public health funds for the health department, was approved.
