Decatur County Commissioners Meeting- 11/4/24

The Commissioners met at 6pm on 11/4/24. The meeting began with the approval of the prior meeting minutes, claims, and payroll.

Todd Houk, Highway Superintendent stated that they are continuing to complete maintenance and perform bridge repairs. He stated that they are currently working on a grant for bridge repairs in the county near Millhousen. A citizen came to the meeting to state his concerns about the road being widened into his yard. After further discussion it was determined that the county is within their right of way and the road has not been widened.

Bill Meyerrose, Sheriff came to the board to present the opportunity to lease vehicles. A representative came to speak about the opportunity. Several figures were provided to support this being a great move for the county. These vehicles will be covered under drive train warranties. This would be a rolling lease program starting with 5 vehicles in 2025 and then moving forward they would lease the vehicles until a point that they have all vehicles leased. It was stated that they would like to work with the county on possibly moving all departments towards utilizing lease vehicles. When upgrading they will transition all equipment over instead of purchasing new. The lease company has agreed to use the outfitter that the sheriff’s department uses presently. Rob Dehoff came to the board and received approval to move forward with the contract with the Turf contractor. This is for phase 1 is for the four front fields.

Rob Dehoff also requested and received approval to place a “Peace Pole” on the Courthouse Square that is purchased by the Greensburg Rotary Club.

The commissioners approved the first reading of the PFAS Ordinance that was created by the Commissioner’s Attorney. This ordinance prohibits the spreading of PFAS from outside Decatur County inside of the county. This does exempt the City of Greensburg Wastewater from this ordinance. The fine is $5,000 per day. The second reading and passing of the ordinance will occur at the next Commissioners meeting.

The commissioners received two proposals for upgrades at the fairgrounds and are taking that under advisement and will discuss those at the next meeting.

The commissioners approved their representative on the Lake Santee Regional Wastewater Board.

Jeremy Pasel read an update provided by Bryan Robbins stating that the READI 2.0 funds are beginning to be approved at this time. He stated that he is working with Baker Tilly to get a financial analysis for the Cobia Solar Project.

The commissioners approved the annual Purdue Extension contract.
