Decatur County Community Schools Board of Education

The Decatur County Community Schools Board of Education met on Wednesday.

The board approved the South Decatur AP Physics trip to King’s Island on May 20. The retirements of Cynthia Wilkerson- South Decatur and Mary Ann Smith- South Decatur were approved. The resignations of Abby Hellmich- North Decatur and Phillip Hatton- bus driver were approved. The hirings of Valarie Stephen- North Decatur, Karen Hudson- North Decatur, Cathy Tichenor- North Decatur, Rodney Martin-South Decatur, Lucas Hochstedler- Anatomy/Physiology, Quinn Ramsey- North Decatur, and Larry Stump- Bus Driver were approved.

The construction bids for renovations at North Decatur and South Decatur Jr/Sr High Schools were presented. This is for a total of $5,815,000 for each school and includes all hard and soft costs. This was approved. The resolution to transfer amounts from the education fund to the operation fund was approved.

Dr. Jason Holland found and applied for a special education grant through the state and the schools were awarded $107,000 from that grant. $97,000 of this will be going toward the purchase of a new special education bus, which was approved by the board.

There was a discussion on replacing the cafe serving line equipment. This will be $246,980 per high school and will come out of the federal school lunch fund. This was approved. The board accepted all donations totaling in $12,504.80. All student fundraisers were approved. The board approved the disposal of obsolete equipment. The Neola Policy updates were approved on the first reading.
