Decatur County Community Schools Board of Education

The Decatur County Community Schools Board of Education met on Wednesday.

Tim Roscoe was sworn in to the board.

The board approved the following field trips: North Decatur Jr./Sr. High School – 11 & 12 Grade FFAIndiana FFA Leadership Center PL ConferenceOvernight – August 26-28, 2022, North Decatur Jr./Sr. High School – 9 -12 Grade FFA Indiana FFA Leadership Center LDW Conference Overnight – September 9-11, 2022, North Decatur Jr./Sr. High School – 7 -12 Grade FFA Tri-County High School Meats Contest Overnight – September 16-17, 2022,

and North Decatur Elementary School – 5 Grade Bradford Woods Overnight – May 18 – 19, 2023. The resignations of Julie Helmers – Biology Teacher NDHS, Mitch Sefton – PE/Health Teacher NDHS, Toni Kellems – Nurse NDHS, Chris Thurston – Assistant Principal NDHS, Nikki Boone – Instructional Assistant NDHS, Kim Hornberger – SPED Teacher NDES, Anna Schwering – SPED Assistant NDES, Tracy Fairchild – Biology Teacher SDHS, Amanda Noah – Social Studies Teacher SDHS, Bridgett Jagger – Assistant SDES, and Nick Messer – School Board Member were approved. The extra effort award for SDHS went to Cathy Pittman. They are always trying their best to ensure every classroom is covered and is an amazing first face you see in the building.

The extra effort awards for SDES went to Nancy Wamsley and Kasey Bolton. Both have gone the extra mile in order to be properly certified and have been a huge help on writing grants.

There will be a public hearing for the budget on August 24. The 2023 budget was presented to the board.

The board approved a bus purchase from a retiring contract driver.

The board nominated Bryan Jones for the Decatur County Community Scholarship Selection Committee. This was approved.

The board discussed the 2022/2023 certified evaluations. This will be based 100% off of the teacher effectiveness rubric.

The Teacher Appreciation Grant policy was approved.

The reentry plan was approved.

The board approved a special education intense intervention paraprofessionals pay of $16.50 an hour.

All donations were approved. All student fundraisers were approved. The disposal of obsolete equipment was approved.

SDHS Principal Stewart Durham gave a report. Open Night was a huge success. The new art teacher will be coming soon to set up their classroom and discuss lesson plans.

SDES Principal Nicole Stone gave a report. They have a new sensory hallway that was installed to allow children a safe space for sensory output. The Backsack Buddies program was brought back with the help of teachers. 30 students will be sent home over the weekend with food because of these teachers. 22 community partners came to the school and helped students get everything they needed for the start of school including haircuts and supplies.
