The Decatur County Community Schools held their Public Hearing for SEA 390 Public Hearing of the Decatur County Education Association and Decatur County Community Schools on September 11, 2024 at 5:45 p.m. A representative for the Decatur County Education Association spoke highlighting the dedication that the teachers give to the school corporation and the students. She said that she hopes that this will be represented during the discussion for teacher compensation and collective bargaining. There was no public comment and the meeting was closed.
The Decatur County Community Schools Board of Education was held on September 11, 2024, at 6:00 pm. The meeting began with the approval of the minutes of the Regular Meeting held August 14, 2024, the Budget Hearing and the Executive Session held August 28, 2024.
The board approved and ordered payment of claims and payroll and approved one conference attendance and one field trip. The board approved two appointments.

South Decatur Elementary School- Nicole Stone, Principal presented the Extra Effort Award to two individuals. Tiffany Foga, Special Education Teacher was selected for her hard work and selflessness. Mrs. Stone stated that Tiffany does her job well and without hesitation. The second award went to Cheyenne Narwold, Special Education Teacher and she was selected because of her hard work especially with her having a tough caseload this year. She is always willing to put in the work.

South Decatur Jr./Sr. High School- Mrs. Amy Cockburn, Principal presented the Extra Effort Award to Mr. Eric Foga, Assistant Principal. She stated that Eric is totally invested in the school and works hard to make sure everything runs exactly as it should. She said that when she came in during the summer he had already begun getting things organized and ready for the school year. She thanked him for all that he has done and believes that they make a great team.
The board approved the 2025 North & South Decatur Jr.-Sr. High School Handbooks
The board approved the following resolutions:
- Resolution to adopt the 2025 Budget which is for the amount of $26,202,365 with an adopted Tax Levy of $10,359,702 which makes the Adopted Tax Rate 1.1700.
- Resolution to adopt the Capital Projects Plan 2025-2027
- Resolution to adopt the Bus Replacement Plan 2025-2029
- Resolution to reduce 2024 appropriations
The board approved 6 student fundraisers. The board approved $1,550 in donations.
Jacob Rader, South Decatur Elementary School Assistant Principal provided an update on happenings. He said that they have several new staff and they are doing great. They had attendance at the Back to School Night with 450 people attending. He said that a class took a field trip to The Power of the Past. He added that tomorrow is Ag Day.
Eric Foga, South Decatur Jr.-Sr.High School Principal provided an update on happenings He said that teachers are going through training and things are starting off well for the year. Amy Cockburn, Principal added that she was very proud of the Volleyball team especially about their win last night. She added that the group Peer Helpers is doing great and currently working with seventh graders. The school hosted a new student and teacher pizza lunch. Homecoming is next week with a parade on Friday at 5pm in Westport, IN. She added that the school is performing Cinderella the musical November 7th, 8th, and 9th.
