Decatur County Council

The Decatur County Council met on Tuesday.

Diane Wenning came to to the board to discuss an upcoming transfer of funds for next year. This will need to be advertised although it is not technically an additional.

There were 2 transfers for the county highway department. These were approved.

There was a discussion on the cumulative cap rate increase. Some council members were not in favor of raising any taxes due to the current economy. Another member pointed out that this could be a double knock to some residents of the county, depending on what Adams Township decides to do. Cumulative cap funds can be spent for anything and the best time to reevaluate the fund is when assessments are high, and these are the highest we’ve seen them. The council decided to look at these on the first of the year, once the economy has settled. There was also discussion on future agriculture and personal property taxes and abatements and how that will have an effect on funding.
