Decatur County Council

The Decatur County Council met on Tuesday.

Monty Shields with the Adult Center presented the 2023 budget request. Last year they received $3,900 from the county and would be happy with any amount they are willing to give this year. This will be reviewed.

Chris Fogle with the 4-H Council presented the 2023 budget request. They realized that 4-H had not done a draw down the past couple of years, they plan to research this to make sure a breakdown like this does not happen again. Their request was for $15,000 but will be happy with whatever funds are received. This will be reviewed.

Kelly Wampler with New Directions presented the 2023 budget request. They requested this year funds be used to launch a growth opportunity to go into the schools. They requested $10,000. This will be reviewed.

Tim Hausmen with Youth to Yellowstone presented the 2023 budget. Last year they were able to extend 14 scholarships to high school students for a trip to Yellowstone. This year they would like to extend the full 16 spots. They requested $7,500. This will be reviewed.

Chief Operating Officer of Centerstone Rob Bachmeyer came to the board to discuss communication issues. The council expressed concerns as Centerstone has not come in to request funding for several years and they have never seen a financial report. Their request is higher than any other request made to the council and yet has the least amount of information given. Another concern was the lack of a county approved member on their board, which is stated in the state statute. Bachmeyer stated that the county of the corporate headquarters is where the board assigned member comes from, in this case Monroe County. The board would like a detailed financial report and further information before approving the $236,000.

Minde Meyers with Animal Control came to the board to request to move a part time employee to full time as they are only getting busier. They would also like to raise the rates for their 2 employees from $13.50 an hour to $16 an hour in order to keep them on board. Currently the shelter is filling up quickly with 78 cats and 35 dogs. This was approved so long as their budget can support it.

The transfers were approved. The tax cap loss recommendations were approved.

The council thanked Mark Koors for all of his work on the fair.
