GREENSBURG, IN — The Decatur County Democratic Central Committee was
pleased to host its annual Bobby Kennedy Dinner this past Tuesday at the new Decatur
County Community Building.
The annual dinner honors the legacy of Robert F. Kennedy, who visited Greensburg
during his presidential campaign in the spring of 1968. Kennedy remains the last major
presidential candidate to campaign in Greensburg, making his visit a memorable part of
our community’s political history.
This year’s gathering was an opportunity to reflect on Kennedy’s legacy while also
looking ahead to the important elections this November.
More than 100 guests attended the evening’s festivities, which included a cocktail hour, a
delicious dinner, a silent auction, and, most importantly, a keynote address from former
Indiana Governor and U.S. Senator Evan Bayh.
Bayh attended on behalf of his son, Beau Bayh, a Marine Corps veteran and Democratic
candidate for Indiana Secretary of State.
In his remarks, Governor Bayh spoke eloquently about the importance of restoring
checks and balances at the Indiana Statehouse and the critical role local elections play in
our democracy.
He also emphasized the need to elect individuals of sound character and integrity—public
servants who are motivated by a genuine desire to serve their communities rather than
advance their own personal interests or political agendas.
It was a thoughtful and rousing address, one that appealed to the better angels of our
nature and reminded those in attendance that character, decency, and public service still
matter in our political discourse.
The Decatur County Democratic Central Committee appreciates everyone who attended,
supported the evening’s activities, and helped make this year’s dinner a success.
