Decatur County has upgraded to an Orange Travel Status & at Midnight will upgrade to Red

Effective at 8:23 PM Decatur County’s Travel Status has been upgraded to a Watch (Orange) Level. At Midnight our Travel Status will change to a Warning (Red) Level.

The forecast predicts that the heaviest snowfall will occur overnight. Blowing, drifting, and subzero wind chills will lead to hazardous conditions for public travel. The Warning Status is believed to be in the greatest interest for the safety of the public and first responders. The Decatur County Highway Department is currently pretreating problematic areas and clearing roadways this evening (1/24). The Highway Department will have crews clearing roads for at least the next continuous 24 hours. The Travel Warning will help limit snow compaction which causes ice on the roadways. At the anticipated low temperatures, compacted snow on the roadways will be difficult to removed because salt is less effective. The Decatur County Commissioners, Emergency Management Board, and Decatur County Highway Department will continue to monitor the situation. Any changes to the travel status will be immediately released to the community. Please stay safe. ” Decatur County Commissioners
