Decatur County REMC employees recently stepped away from their desks and bucket trucks and into the community for Community Day, a statewide initiative that brings together Indiana’s electric cooperatives to make a hands-on difference in the communities they serve.

This year, the Decatur County REMC team spent the day volunteering at South Decatur Elementary School, where they tackled several improvement projects including painting dugouts and the concession stand, and staining bridges and benches in the school’s outdoor lab.
“Community Day gives us the opportunity to do what cooperatives do best – work together for the good of our members and our community,” said Crystal Greathouse, Decatur County REMC Communication & Member Services Manager. “Our employees take great pride in serving beyond the lines, and this project was a meaningful way to give back to a place that supports so many.”
The office was closed during the event to allow all employees to participate. However, crews remained on call to respond to any service needs or outages.
Each year, electric cooperatives across Indiana participate in Community Day projects – from school improvements and park cleanups to food drives and shelter renovations – as a way to demonstrate the cooperative difference in action.
“At Decatur County REMC, we believe in more than providing electricity,” Crystal added. “We power communities and empower our members by investing time and energy into projects that make a lasting impact right here at home.”
Decatur County REMC, located in Greensburg, Ind., is an electric utility cooperative serving almost 6,800 members in Decatur, Bartholomew, Franklin, Jennings, Ripley, and Rush counties and maintains over 1,060 miles of line. For more information about the cooperative visit www.dcremc.com.
