Decatur County Visitors Commission

The Decatur County Visitors Commission met on Thursday.

The grant committee reviewed the grant requests and gave their recommendation. North Decatur High School requested up to $2,400 for their Charger Holiday Classic. This is for reimbursement for the teams who decide to spend the night and eat in Decatur County. The board approved up to $2,400.

Erica Gunn and Daniel Fayette gave a marketing update. The December edition of their newsletter is coming out soon and will feature a “what to do for the holiday season in Decatur County” section. They will be taking holiday photos at the Holiday walk and are planning to finish up some video work. There will be posters featuring places around Decatur County including the Westport covered bridge and Carnegie Library, which will be for sale in both the Visitors Center and Picker’s Paradise.

John Pratt gave an update on the bicentennial. They have created sponsorship packages and have some grants due at the end of November. The person in charge of the Ohio Railroad experience said that they love Greensburg and how we welcome them. The train will be returning on September 17, 2022. The train will stop at Maddux auction and will experience a reenactment of President Lincoln giving the same speech he gave in that spot in 1861. The train will also be offering a ride to our community to Batesville and back while their passengers enjoy our town. This will be at the same time as the fall festival. June 11 will be the bicentennial parade. Also on June 11 Bluegrass Hall of Fame Musician Larry Sparks will be performing. Sparks has lived in Decatur County for 20+ years and this will be his first time performing here.

The 2022 budget was approved by the county council.

The board approved the YMCA annual commitment of $10,000.
