Nettie VanArsdall, 89

Nettie Ann VanArsdall, 89, of Greensburg passed away on April 25, 2024. She was born on May 31, 1934 in Rushville, Indiana, the daughter of William and Martha (Mantooth) Giddings. Nettie was a 1952 graduate of Sandusky High School. On January 18th, 1953, she married Charles “Chad” VanArsdall. Chad and Nettie had two daughters, Melody and Susan.

Nettie owned and managed Stewart Ladies Apparel in Greensburg for 37 years. Nettie made it her goal to ensure everyone who came in the store received a personalized experienced. Nettie always gave her honest opinion to those she was “styling” which her customers appreciated. Nettie always purchased the clothing for her store with each individual customer in mind. This attest to her personality of always thinking about and ensuring others were taken care of. Nettie was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 60 years. Nettie served in numerous areas including children’s ministry, meal ministry, and sang in the choir. Nettie was a faithful, long time member of the Thankful Hearts Class. She was known to be an avid prayer warrior and was always talking to God about those she loved. Nettie was also a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority for 62 years. She participated in numerous outreach opportunities to benefit her community and those in need. Nettie was able to gain lifelong friends and was blessed to be a part of a true sisterhood. Nettie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In recent years, Nettie loved her role of being a Gigi to her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: Daughters, Melody (Bobby) Johnson and Susan (Scott) Robbins; Grandchildren, Angie (Jake) Nicewander, Elaine (Brian) Stroud, Abby (Jayme) Herbert and Hannah (Desi) Sterling; Great Grandchildren, Madison Nicewander, Emma Herbert, Maverick Herbert, Oakley Herbert and Charlee Rose Herbert; Brother, Billy (Billie) Giddings. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Carol Giddings and Margaret Gosnell and brother, David Giddings.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 11:00 am with visitation an hour before. Pastor Cliff Bunch will be officiating. Burial will follow at East Brook Cemetery in Milroy. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
