Decatur County Visitors Commission

The Decatur County Visitors Commission met on Thursday.

Erica Gunn gave a marketing update. They have been trying to plan for the eclipse and they have ordered eclipse glasses for the event. They have been focusing on the concert series through posters and Facebook/social media boost. The first of the concert series will be a Beatles coverband on Saturday, June 3. They are considering hiring more than one intern, as there is enough content to be made throughout summer events. This would be in budget.

There was a discussion on the Pirate Park concession stand. The concessions have been growing and the purchase of a cooler/fridge could be a future investment. They have gotten lots of parent and visitor compliments on the setup.

There was a discussion on the alleyway project. They are working with Iron Timbers who have been coming up with concept ideas for the alley. They are trying to make it an entrance for the square to the parking and would also like it to be an artistic photo op. Their goal is to keep anything added from touching the buildings, to keep their historical integrity in place and not mess with the structure’s integrity.

The board approved the policy for the auditor to pay claims prior to board approval.
