False Alarm – that’s what Decatur County Sheriff Bill Meyerrose says about calls residents have reported receiving

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, several residents reported to the Decatur County Sheriff’s
Dept. that they are receiving phone calls from a Sgt. James Watson or Lt. Williams
with the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, claiming they are with the processing
department.
There is no one by that name who is employed at the Decatur County Sheriff’s
Department.
Upon returning a call to the number left by the caller, the voicemail greeting does say it
is for the Decatur County Sheriffs’ Department, but this is also false.
As a reminder, the Decatur County Sheriffs Department will NEVER contact anyone
by phone asking for money, payments of any kind or any personal information.
